Frontier Airlines Announces Service Between Denver and the Sunport – July 18, 2017
Today, Mayor Richard J. Berry and Aviation Director Jim Hinde announced that Frontier Airlines will begin service between Albuquerque and Denver. The daily, nonstop flight will go on sale today and service is set to begin Oct. 24.
“This is exciting news for Albuquerque and we couldn’t be more pleased to welcome back Frontier Airlines to the Sunport,” Mayor Berry said. “We are looking forward to Frontier providing low-cost flight options between Denver and Albuquerque. This is the fourth airline we have introduced in the last five years and is another win for our citizens and visitors, and indicative of our city’s strengthening economy.”
“With today’s announcement, Frontier now offers our Low Fares Done Right to new destinations from Albuquerque,” said Jim Faulkner, head of corporate communications, Frontier Airlines. “Customers traveling from Albuquerque now have a new low-cost option in these markets, and with The WORKS and The PERKS, we offer the best value in U.S. air travel.”
Frontier offers The WORKS bundled choice with the most popular options, including one carry-on bag, one checked bag, best available seat including Stretch and Exit Row options, full refundability when canceled at least 24 hours prior to scheduled departure, no change fees and priority boarding, for one low price.
Since 2009, the Sunport has added four airlines with service to three new destinations and expanded options to six existing destinations, which has ultimately led to positive passenger growth. Year-to-date, Sunport traffic is up 2% over 2016.
During this same period, the Sunport has remained fiscally responsible, maintained one of the highest bond ratings in the industry for an airport of its size, renovated the entire post-security area of the terminal, and recently began a $30 million renovation project to the pre-security portion of the terminal. Those renovations to the bag claim, ticketing and curbside areas of the terminal are scheduled for completion in late 2108.
Other major initiatives currently underway at the Sunport are the Aviation Center of Excellence (ACE) which is an 80-acre site near Girard and Gibson that will house aviation related industry and retail/commercial businesses. That project is in phase two of development and will be ready for tenants later this year. Lastly, a $1.3 million project to replace all roadway signage around the airport is underway and is scheduled to be complete by fall.
