Albuquerque International Sunport Announces Road Closure for Airport Improvements
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Beginning Monday, October 2, Girard Boulevard will be completely closed south of Gibson Boulevard. With the exception of the cell phone waiting area, there will be no access to parking lots or the aircraft viewing area off Girard during this time. The south aircraft viewing area, located near University Boulevard and Spirit Drive, remains open.
To access the cell phone waiting area, please use Sunport Boulevard (see attached map). The closure of Girard south of Sunport Boulevard is expected to last 45 days and 120 days north of Sunport Boulevard.
This closure is part of the Aviation Center of Excellence project, which broke ground earlier this year. The $8 million project is on the site of the former north/south runway, Runway 17-35, that was decommissioned in 2012. Upon completion, the ACE site will be home to aviation and aerospace businesses, high tech companies and some retail.
The Albuquerque International Sunport is owned by the City of Albuquerque and operated by the Aviation Department. For Sunport information, please visit our website at www.abqsunport.com or call (505) 244-7700.
