Albuquerque International Sunport Announces Runway Closure for Repairs
Beginning Monday, February 26, the Sunport’s primary runway, Runway 8-26, will be closed for repairs for a total of 60 days. During this time, all commercial departures will be using Runway 3-21, which has a northeast/southwest orientation.
An increase in air traffic and noise is expected over southeast Albuquerque, particularly Ridgecrest and the International District, during the project due to the orientation of Runway 3-21. The number of flights in and out of the Sunport will not be affected.
The closure of Runway 8-26 is a result of cracking and spalling concrete slabs on the runway. Approximately 167 concrete slabs will be repaired or replaced. As the Sunport’s primary runway, it is imperative that it is in good condition.
The Albuquerque International Sunport is owned by the City of Albuquerque and operated by the Aviation Department. For Sunport information, please visit our website at www.abqsunport.com or call (505) 244-7700.
