Sunport Primary Runway Reopens – May 7, 2018

The primary runway at the Albuquerque International Sunport has reopened after being closed due to repair work Commercial departures have returned to their normal east/west flight path using Runway 8-26, considerably reducing noise over southeast Albuquerque.

The closure of Runway 8-26 was a result of cracking and spalling concrete slabs on the runway. 177 concrete slabs were repaired or replaced. The closure lasted approximately seven days longer than expected due to weather conditions and replacement of additional concrete slabs found to be damaged during the course of work. As the Sunport’s primary runway, it is imperative that it remains in good condition. The number of flights in and out of the Sunport was not affected during the closure.
