Southwest Airlines Announces Daily Service Between Albuquerque and San Jose – February 14, 2019
Options to and from the Albuquerque International Sunport continue to grow, adding more destinations and more frequent service both domestically and internationally. Southwest Airlines recently announced the launch of daily, non-stop service from San Jose, California. This is the first daily service offering between Albuquerque and San Jose. Service will begin August 6.
“The Sunport is New Mexico’s connection to the world, both domestically and internationally,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “This daily non-stop service to San Jose opens new doors for economic development and tourism with the Bay Area and Silicon Valley, and continues our efforts to build a gateway to the southwest.”
“We are excited to see Southwest continuing to expand their offerings in the Albuquerque market, particularly in destinations not served by other airlines,” said Nyika Allen, Director of Aviation for the City of Albuquerque. “We hope that this service strengthens our ties with the Silicon Valley region, bringing more investment opportunities to Albuquerque and New Mexico.”
Southwest currently serves San Jose on Sundays only. The move to daily service provides more flexibility and business connectivity for those traveling to and from the Bay Area and Silicon Valley. Tickets for San Jose service may be purchased at www.southwest.com.
The Sunport has seen consistent growth in recent years, with an increase of nearly eight percent in passenger traffic in 2018. New Mexico tourism also grew for the seventh straight year. Last week, the Sunport announced service to Chihuahua, Mexico, it’s second international destination announcement in recent months, adding to the first true international service in nearly a decade.
