The Albuquerque Sunport Has Spirit

Mar 16, 2022

Today, City leaders announced a new airline will be heading to the Albuquerque International Sunport. Spirit Airlines will begin offering daily service to Harry Reid International Airport, formerly McCarran International Airport, August 3. This is the Sunport’s first announcement of a new domestic airline partner in more than five years.

“Our new leadership team is hard at work growing the Sunport and bringing new connections to New Mexicans,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “Whether it’s helping someone discover Albuquerque for the first time or making it easier for our families and business travelers to come together; Spirit’s addition to the Sunport strengthens our position as New Mexico’s gateway to the world.”

Albuquerque’s growing popularity as a travel destination created the ideal market conditions for Spirit airlines as the company grows its network in the Southwest. With this service to Las Vegas, New Mexicans are just one stop away from Spirit’s endless destinations across North and South America.

“Spirit’s entry into the Albuquerque market is a direct result of passengers utilizing direct, non-stop flight options,” said Richard McCurley, Director of Aviation for the City of Albuquerque. “Our new leadership team is working hard to bring more connections to the Sunport for the residents of New Mexico.”

“We can’t wait to start service in New Mexico for the first time and provide an affordable, nonstop route to Las Vegas, with so many new connection opportunities for our guests,” said John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines. “Additionally, Albuquerque is the gateway to all the beautiful places to visit in New Mexico, and this route will open up new travel opportunities for guests from across the country to visit the Land of Enchantment.”

The Sunport last added a new domestic airline partner in 2016 when Allegiant Airlines began service out of Albuquerque. Today’s announcement is part of a larger expansion for Spirit Airlines, which added new connections across the country.

Flight patterns may be rerouted due to FAA runway maintenance. We appreciate your patience.
