ALBUQUERQUE — Today, the Albuquerque International Sunport welcomed its eighth major commercial airline carrier to the city, as Minnesota-based Sun Country Airlines began its seasonal, twice-weekly nonstop service between Albuquerque and the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP). Sun Country Airlines, a low-cost carrier, announced its new Albuquerque route in October of 2023 as part of the airline’s expanded service to seven other U.S. cities as well as two Canadian destinations.
“As our city grows, we’re working to make sure we have accessible, convenient travel opportunities so folks can explore new places and stay connected with loved ones,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “We look forward to the opportunities that this new service will unlock for our families.”
Sun Country Airlines will operate a 186-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft on the ABQ -MSP route, featuring an onboard experience that includes state-of-the-art seating, comfortable recline, and in-seat power in most seats. The airline’s best seats include extra legroom, extra recline and preferred boarding. Sun Country also provides free in-flight entertainment on customer devices and complimentary non-alcoholic beverages.
“We are pleased to add Albuquerque to our route map,” said Greg Mays, Sun Country’s Chief Operating Officer. “I know Minnesotans will enjoy the state’s outdoor beauty, hiking, and all it has to offer, including the arts community in Santa Fe. We also invite folks to come north for the summer and enjoy our Land of 10,000 Lakes.”
“We are so happy to welcome Sun Country Airlines to Albuquerque,” said Aviation Department Director Richard McCurley. “With Sun Country’s commitment to affordable travel, New Mexicans will now have more convenient access to the Twin Cities. This option greatly aligns with our mission to serve our residents and overall community. We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Sun Country Airlines.”
