Spirit Takes Flight at the ABQ Sunport
Daily non-stop service between Albuquerque and Las Vegas begins today.
ALBUQUERQUE — Today, Spirit Airlines officially enters the Albuquerque market with its new daily, non-stop service between the Albuquerque International Sunport and Harry Reid International Airport, in Las Vegas, NV. This is the Sunport’s first new domestic airline partner since 2016.
“Today’s inaugural flight is a signal of increasing demand for not only Las Vegas, but Albuquerque as a tourism destination,” said Richard McCurley, Director of Aviation for the City of Albuquerque. “We are confident this will be a successful route and look forward to our partnership with Spirit for years to come.”
To celebrate the launch, Spirit and the Sunport hosted “Spiritaneous,” an on-the-spot vacation giveaway for two, complete with roundtrip airfare on the inaugural flight, a three-night stay at the Luxor Las Vegas and a $150 gift card to Miracle Mile Shops. The two lucky winners are now on their way to Vegas!
“Albuquerque makes for a great debut into New Mexico, offering our guests affordable and easy access to the vibrant culture and unique recreational activities found in the Duke City,” said John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines. “Additionally, we’re excited to welcome Albuquerque travelers onboard with daily non-stop service to the Entertainment Capital of the World, which also serves as a gateway to many other popular destinations in the Spirit Airlines Network.”
Albuquerque’s growing popularity as a travel destination fostered ideal market conditions for Spirit, as it continues to grow its network in the Southwest. With nonstop service to Las Vegas, New Mexicans are also just one stop away from Spirit’s destinations across North and South America, providing additional, convenient options for travelers.
“This is an exciting milestone for the Sunport,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “For the first time in more than five years, we’re welcoming a new fleet of aircraft to the skies of Albuquerque. The new airline isn’t just a new connection to and from the Duke City, it’s a sign of our continued growth and of new opportunities for New Mexicans, for tourism, and our economic recovery.”
Spirit also showed their commitment to being a supportive member of the community by presenting a donation of $20,000 to local nonprofit Mandy’s Farm, an organization that helps individuals with developmental disabilities who live below the federal poverty line.
